Car tuning is both an industry and a hobby, in which an automobile, motor bike, scooter or moped is modified in order to improve its performance, handling and presentation and improve the owner's driving style. As most vehicles leave the factory set up for average driver expectations and average conditions, tuning has become a way to personalize the characteristics of the vehicle to the owner's preference. For example, they may be altered to provide better fuel economy, produce more power at high RPM or the ride comfort may be sacrificed to provide better handling. Car tuning is related to auto racing, although most performance cars never compete. Rather they are built for the pleasure of owning and driving such a vehicle. Another major facet of tuning includes performance modification to the car exterior. This includes changing the aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicle via side skirts, front and rear bumpers, adding spoilers, splitters, air vents and light weight wheels. Areas of modificationAudioIs a term used to describe the sound or video system fitted in the vehicle. A stock audio system refers to one that was specified by the manufacturer when the vehicle was built. A custom audio installation can involve anything from the upgrade of the radio to a full-blown customization based around the audio equipment. Events are held where entrants compete for the loudest or most innovative sound systems. Interior tuningInterior tuning is a term used for modifying of the interior of a car. for example; removing the back seats to make room for a sound system, or taking out the front seats and replacing them with bucket seats (racing seats). Another recent form of interior tuning is the replacement of the OEM Shift Knob with an aftermarket version such as a weighted shift knob for cosmetic and/or for performance purposes. GNU Free Documentation License why is tuning necessary when supercharging a car? Q. lets say you have your tachometer and another one that sits on top, the rpm needle use to match the rpms on the main gauge, and now its off slightly, does that mean your car needs tuning? Asked by camaro - Sun May 4 16:40:52 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. You are talking about readings on two different tachometers?? It means the tachs. do not read the same, -- 1/2 of engine woud not be running one way, - and the other half another! The tach. read RPMs--- not whether the engine is running properly! Whether you need tuneup would be determined by performance of engine! Such as mpg, - and how long it takes to get up to speed limit under full throttle! And sometimes identifiable by emmissions test! Answered by guess78624 - Sun May 4 16:55:46 2008 How should your headunit be set before tuning your car amplifier? Q. By set i mean..does the head unit have to be like lets say bass boost in + 6 or -6..and the other settings like treble and mids. Thank you. Would appreciate it alot if i you can give me your ideas. Asked by Javi R - Wed Jun 17 17:46:21 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. It all depends on how much bass or power you want to extract from both your deck and your subs. If you want as much bass as possible, I recommend putting the bass level on +6, treble on max, and mid on max. Putting the bass level on +8 will start to distort your bass coming from your subs. Also, keep your volume about 1/3. So about, 15-20. Then go back and start tuning your amp. When tuning your amp, be sure to do it very slowly and start to notice the difference in the bass levels. Q. Hi,i'm trying to find the best car for tuning and racing,so far i got a choice of nissan 200sx turbo,i want it to be turbo too but it's optional,i want it's price to be around 2000euro or less,i want it to be no more than 2.0L and it should have more than 170hp,please tell me what is the car of my dreams!i want to engine-mod it and than race with it.any car you know or a few would help, thank you! Asked by Million Dollar Baby - Wed Jun 17 07:31:23 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Go for the 200SX. RWD cars are better balanced than FWD cars which actually make the 200 a better track car than the Civic. Plus you can't have some fun drifting a FWD car cause they can't drift. Put too much power through the front wheels and under heavy acceleration they torque steer. Classic example: MazdaSpeed 3. 260hp through the front wheels, one of the worst cases of torque-steer ever. SR20DETs are THE most popular inline-4s out there. The Civic's mod list may be big, but the 200SX is twice the size. And it doesn't take half as much to get a 200SX up to 300hp+, and even then you won't have any of the repercussions of the Civic because of its drive layout. Plus, as stock, they're more fun to drive and much better looking than Honda's.
