A. float s bad or damaged clock wise float goes down counter clockwise float goes up still no fuel out of port you might have a bent bracket to the float or no fuel pressure to lift the needle off the seat

What kind and size of carburetor would be best to put on my camaro?
Q. I have a 1990 Chevy Camaro RS, recently installed a 355/5.7L engine in it but the only carburetor I had at the time was broke, so I'm looking for a new one to put on the car. I am looking for a carburetor that will give it the most performance with out being to much/big for the engine to handle. What would be the best size and make for my car(examle: edelbrock 600cfm)? Thanks
Asked by nick - Thu May 31 00:42:47 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. the edelbrock 650cfm would be a good replacement carb for your car but you have to deal with some computer stuff if you have a computer still hooked up to your motor if so and the carb on your car is computer controlled it could give you some problems what all is done to your car and motor makes a big difffrence to what you need if basicaly stock motor and the comp is not in use any more then yes the 650 cfm would work great I worked as a mechanic for many years and built some nice drag cars and street cars now I am build a 82 Elcamino with a tricked out 454 and nitrous fun fun

Q. I want to sand blast a carburetors puter (white metal) body and the steel linkage that is attached to the carburetor. I need to know what the best media for sandblasting both types of metal is.

A. No, please don't, no matter what the medium there is just too big of a chance of getting the small passages in one plugged. Please think about using either chemicals designed for the task or using a dremmel type tool to polish it.

How do you adjust the carburetor on a 66 mustang?
Q. I have a 66 mustang, and it idle's really high, so when i first start it up, if i dont rev the engine enough it stalls out. how do i go about adjusting the carburetor to correct this, or do you know of any websites that can help me out.
Asked by HeadAche - Wed Jul 11 10:41:22 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. sounds like your choke is not working properly if it stalls after starting it. you can adjust the idle by a little screw on the throttle plate by were the cable attaches to the carb. normally when the choke is applied to start there is a little cam that makes the idle speed increase during start up. if you have a automatic or electric choke make sure it closes when the engine is cold. also make sure it opens all the way once the engine is at operating temp. as to adjusting the carb you will need a vacume guage hook it up to a port that has vacume at idle adjust the low speed jet so the guage needle moves as little as possible. overall engine condition will effect this also rings, valves etc. if you cant get the needle to to stay within 1-2… [cont.]

A. Try going on E-Bay. Or contact some Classic Car clubs. There are automotive Flea Markets around the country. We have a big one annually in our area (Barrie Ontario).

How do i remove the throttle cable from a 1975 Suzuki TS185 enduro carburetor?
Q. I am removing the carburetor from a 1975 suzuki ts185 enduro bike for cleaning reasons. however i cant figure out how to disconnect the actual throttle cable. i unscrewed the top cap but there is a spring underneath and an actual throttle wire that does not want to be removed. Any tips or clues on how to remove the cable from the carb are greatly appreciated.
Asked by svdspecialist - Sat Jan 16 10:43:09 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. yes pull the spring up cup it in your hand and there should be a small plate below. Push the cable down 1/4 in to 1/2 inch and push it to the side and then pull up. its slotted with a hole large enough to pull it and a slot to a smaller hole that it normally rests in.

How long does it take for fuel to go from the tank to the carburetor?
Q. I just replaced my fuel lines on my 76 chevy. When I try to start it it won't start I think the problem I'm not giving it enough time to reach the carburetor. It is a mechanical fuel but how long should I crank it before gas should be getting there
Asked by devinator92 - Sun May 24 13:19:13 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm pretty sure you have a mechanical fuel pump on the side of your engine. They don't pump air very well. You may want to bleed the air out of the system by opening the inlet side of the pumps fuel line and blow into the gas tank to force fuel through the empty lines. Prime the carburetor too. That means to prefill it.

A. That's a mighty ambitious project. If you are in the US it is also illegal - the EPA has some really draconian penalties for changes to the fuel and emission systems like that, including serious prison time.

How come my brand new carburetor starts on fire every time I try to start my camaro?
Q. I have a 350 motor with a brand new Edelbrock carburetor & each time I try to start my '67 camaro, the carb catches fire. What am I doing wrong?
Asked by hotrodhedda - Wed Nov 15 20:59:13 2006 - - 15 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Your ignition timing is way off and the spark is firing when the intake valve is open! Adjust your timing and you should not have the problem. If the timing is correctly set, you most likely have burnt intake valves!

Can I go from a single barrel to a double barrel carburetor?
Q. Its a 1975 Chevy Nova 6 cyl. with a 350. I want to change out the carburetor but have noticed that I am having trouble finding a single barrel and there are alot of 4 barrel ones. Does it matter? The motor is a 250 6 cylinder sorry about the misunderstanding.
Asked by Tabitha W - Mon Nov 10 15:18:08 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Of course it matters. If you find an adaptor that fits both engine and carb, you'll notice you have more power at redline at the loss of low end torque. In other words, not very driveable in town. Was that a 6 cylinder 350, or is your transmission a TH350?
