what is the best school in the nation for building and restoring street rods customizing cars?
Q. my son wants to get into car customizing street rods muscle cars etc.thats his passion so Ihave to go with it.Iwant the best school for this. thank you

A. Your own garage. The "best" school, is the old school. Which means, not going to to some stupid class, and learning how to do what everyone is does. Because if he does that, no one will want to hire him. He'll be the same as thousands of others. Custom means unique. How can you get "unique", if you're following a schedule with a bunch of other people? Get him a welder. And a torch. And a junk car to chop up and modify. He'll learn faster, and make it his own. That's how all the old hot rod pros have done it. When was the last time you heard of a Daddy Roth or Boyd Coddington from a hotrod school? Never. If anything, ask him if there's a school he wants to go to. No idea why you would be looking for a school for him. It's his passion,… [cont.]

What type of skill or experience do you need to do the stuff they do on Street Customs, customizing cars?
Q. I wanted to get into a career either putting rims on cars, changing body parts, custom paints so later on I could have my own auto shop.

A. best thing to do is have a car you want to work on. buy the Haynes book on it. Not perfect but good information inside. Learn everything piece by piece. Research carbs and tinker with them until you have a good understanding what you are doing. Then mess with something else like timing and the distributor. I learned by fixing what was broke first. Since I had to start somewhere I learned everything I could about what I need fixed so I would know what I was doing. Then start fixing what isn't broke but you want to do something different i.e. mods. Learn it system by system. This way you can apply that knowledge to different cars that have the same systems with different setups.
