An air force, also known in some countries as an air army or historically an army air corps , is in the broadest sense, the national military or armed service that primarily conducts aerial warfare. The term "air force" may also refer to a tactical air force or numbered air force, which is an operational formation within a national air force. Air forces typically consist of a combination of fighters, bombers, helicopters, transport planes and other aircraft. Many air forces are also responsible for operations of military space, intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), and communications equipment. Some air forces may command and control other air-defense assets such as antiaircraft artillery, surface-to-air missiles, or anti-ballistic missile warning networks and defensive systems. As an organization, the air forces have what "ground support" to support the pilots and aircrew. Similar to any civilian organization, there are supporting employees who assist and/or support other employees. Pilots cannot fly the aircraft without the assistance of other personnel such as civil engineers, loadmasters, fuels, and mechanics, and additional support-oriented career field. Anything in the medical career field would also be good. Such as Dental Hygenist, Radiologist Technician, Labratory Apprentice, pharmacy tech. Anything with computers is also good. Civil Engineering jobs such as HVAC apprentice you can get out and work for an Air Condtioning & heating repair company. You can also do Flight Attendant, you get sent to culinary schools get to fly all over . Once you get out you would transfer well into the corporate flight attendant world If you go into Aviation maintenance, you'll get experience but you'll have to get an Airframe & Powerplant license to work at the airlines which the AF doesn't give you. Well Air Force Reserve and/or Guard is definitely "safer" as far as you are less likely to be put in the front lines. I am in the Air National Guard, but I think the pay is about the same for the reserves. I am an E-4 (SrA) and I get, after taxes and dental insurance is taken out, right at $200 a month. There are pay charts out there that you can look at for a specific number. It is also different by state. Whenever you get called up to active duty, you will get paid active duty pay. Which for an E4, the base pay is, I think, somewhere around $1700 a month, plus you will get housing allowance (for me it is $450 a month) and food allowance. I enjoy my guard unit very much.
