What things should I check on a riding cub cadet lawn mower that has white smoke coming from it?
Q. Cub Cadet riding lawn mower is 2-3 years old. It has white billowing smoke when the blade drops down to cut. What things should I be checking. Is this something I can fix at home perhaps? the small engine shop says they are behind 2-3 weeks.
Asked by heavnknowz - Mon Apr 28 18:36:36 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Where is the smoke coming from? Is it coming out the exhaust or from the the mower deck? If it is coming from the exhaust you may have put too much oil in the crankcase. If it is from the deck it must be the belts. Something is not turning or the belts are not on correctly. I know this isn't much help but more information is needed for this one.

cub cadet model 1525 hydrostatic lawn tractor with 15 hp kawasaki engine that is seized. How can it be fixed?
Q. I was given a cub cadet model 1525 15 horse power hydrostatic lawn tractor with a seized engine. The oil warning light comes on but it won't crank or even bump.Any suggestions on where to start to get her back online would be appreciated.Thank you.
Asked by Sweet Lew - Sat Aug 29 12:53:47 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Depending on how long it has been seized, it might be kinda easy, or a huge job. Start by removing the spark plug and spraying a large quantity of penetrating oil directly into the cylinder. Let it sit for a day and then try turning the crankshaft with a wrench. Don't try using the starter until you can turn it easily by hand. After you get it turning you can pour in a little motor oil and turn it some more. When it is easy to turn, let the starter spin it for a while. Put the spark plug back in and see if it will start. The biggest potential problem is that the rings might be "set" and it won't have good compression, and it might also burn oil. If that is the case, an engine rebuild will be in order.

Where are the grease fittings in a Cub Cadet RZT 50"?
Q. I can't find the grease fittings for the mower deck. I did find the two that were on the front two wheels. I looked in the owner's manual and online and can't seem to find the answer. Any help would be appreciated. This is the lawn mower

A. if I am correct u don't have any for the deck spindles and may b one on the deck belt idler pulley arm. most manufactures do not put grease Zerk's on decks anymore cuz they r using double sealed bearings and in theory no dirt should get in or out. (yeah right). yr lucky to have them on yr caster wheels most comp don't even put them there anymore either.

What is a Cub Cadet 85 Special I have one and I use it for garden tractor pulling.?
Q. Does anybody have a pic of one or details on it. Well I kinda souped it up and I go all over my state and pull sleds with weight on them to the farthest I can go. No one knows what this garden tractor is because international haverster only made 2 of them.

A. It is a riding lawn mower. It will be under 20hp. I'm not sure if it has a transmission that will tolerate the stress of a tractor pull like a tractor for used plowing. I wouldn't think so since it is mainly for cutting grass.

Q. Why won't my cub cadet 1042 riding lawn mower start?
Asked by Natalie R - Sun Sep 16 16:59:03 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Consider that an internal combustion engine needs the following: spark, fuel, and air. Check the obvious first, make sure that you have spark...or just replace the spark plug. Clean the air filter (or replace it), make sure you have fresh gas in the tank. If it still fails to start, is it turning over?? If not, have the battery checked. If it turns over, but won't start, possibly the starter solenoid is bad. There are 101 little things that could be your problem (bad wiring, wire disconnected, etc. etc.). Approach the problem via process of elimination.

A. Why go to Home Depot? If you need service, they will send you to a dealer. So cut out the middle man and just buy from a dealer. Cub Cadets are made by MTD. The same people who make White, Bolens, Troy Bilt, Yard Man, and Yard Machines. A dealer offers more services for your mower than a box store. Here is some food for thought: "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten"

what is wrong when the cub cadet tractor stalls when the brake is taken off?
Q. This tractor is used with a snow blower and was working fine but now shuts itself off when brake taken off or PTO engaged.
Asked by nese - Sat Feb 27 13:40:22 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It sounds like there is something blocking the blower, try cleaning it and make sure it's free by turning it by hand. It could also be a seized bearing.

I have a Cub Cadet 1050 riding mower. It cuts fine for a period of time, then sputters and dies.?
Q. The mower has a new air filter, gas filter, and the cap air vent is fine. Dealer says it is the gas (Virginia) and to try some premium. I did and it runs fine. But all gas must be new or problem reappears (with week old gas). Does anyone have a solution for this?
Asked by Joseph C - Fri Oct 12 08:49:56 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would suspect the ignition module. As it gets hot it is breaking down and giving a weaker and weaker spark until it dies. Could be with new higher grade gas it will continue to run. I don't think that the gas is going to be the permanent fix.

Check it both ways to make sure it is on. 9 out of 10 small engine problems start and end with the spark plug. Try replacing it first. If you do buy a Cub Cadet, buy it from a dealer who can service it. Lowe's, Home Depot, and Wal-Mart cannot honor the warranty. Only a servicing dealer can.
