How to clean soft leather custom car seat?
Q. I bought a used car that has custom made seats w/ black cloth and a soft textured white leather. The problem is that the white leather gets stained so easily, and I don't know which cleaners to use on them. I've read warnings on regular leather products NOT to use them on the type of soft leather my seats are... Any ideas??
Asked by Voodoo Child - Wed Feb 20 20:09:47 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I bet your leather is really vinyl. i could be wrong but most trim shops use vinyl unless they are replacing just a panel in a seat or lean back. if you are not absolutely sure take it to a trim shop for verification. if it turns out to be vinyl then a soft bristle brush and mild detergent will do nicely. if it is real leather you got to be careful in the cleaning process as it is dyed and you can remove the color. there are leather cleaners on the market at most parts houses.

How much does a custom paint job for a car cost?
Q. Also How long does it take to complete one painting? How would I go about changing it quickly? (Say for a "Flavor" of the week display...) see this website for examples of paint jobs I'm wondering because my friend's room mate does this and we're all wondering if it's as cheap as he says or if he's actually a bit clueless on money.
Asked by TrueBlue - Sat Nov 3 11:09:24 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If you are not doing the art yourself, art alone can run $500-$15,000. The paint job, clearcoat, etc can run as well from $500-$50,000. All depends on what you want done. Car painting is not cheap. And not an item to change weekly, not even yearly. Once you paint on a car, you decrease its value greatly. Alter its color from factory and you risk later on not being able to sell it.

I want to be a custom mobile car electronic installer what should I do to begin?

Asked by Tony S - Sat Jan 10 20:14:30 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Just like any professional - people will want reassurance that you know what you're doing before they will be willing to let you work on their cars there. Getting MECP certified - Master Installation Tech will take some time to accomplish. The www.ce.org website is informative of getting you in the right direction.

When do you negotiate price of a new car when buying a custom order car?
Q. I want to buy a custom order car - i.e. car is not in the showroom. I need to put a non-refundable deposit down and place the order. They say I can negotiate the price of the car after the car is made and is shipped to the dealer. Do I have more negotiating leverage after the car has been made and shipped or before I put my non-refundable deposit down?
Asked by unbuoyed - Fri Aug 13 12:51:49 2010 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments
A. First and foremost, once you have given them money, especially when they say it's non-refundable, your negotiating power drops to zero. They simply have no incentive, and all the leverage, to force you to accept whatever price they dictate, or you lose the money you put down. There should be a set MSRP on whatever options you want, and you should be able to negotiate and draw up an agreement based on that. If they refuse, find another dealership. By giving them a deposit, you are saying "I will buy the product". Without a price set, this simply doesn't make sense. You wouldn't go to a Best Buy and give the guy at the door $50, point to a TV set, and say "I want that, at whatever price you choose". This is the car-buying equivalent. Second, [cont.]

what insurance is best for insuring custom cars that are at car shows?
Q. I am planning to customize my car for show use. I was wanting to know which insurance was the best for this type of car?
Asked by Pete R - Tue Dec 30 06:35:26 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I like Haggarty best, BUT, in order to qualify for that type of policy, you have to meet strict requirements - like, the car can't be regularly driven by you, you must have at least one other car in the household for every operator, you must put less than 5,000 miles a year on the car, you must keep it in a locked garage, you must be over 26. And, of course, you must have a valid appraisal to establish the agreed value. do not buy "stated value" coverage. It's worse than actual cash value. You want "agreed value" coverage. Your agent can explain the difference - and if they can't, then you need an agent that knows the difference.

How do you order a custom car from a dealership? Like one with added features?
Q. I'm customizing a car on the scion website right now and am interested in it. They have many options though to customize it to your preference exactly so I'm sure they dont have the exact kind at the dealership. When I'm ready to purchase a vehicle, would i just go to the dealership with a list for the options i want included in the vehicle? And how long would it usually take for them to install the parts and such?
Asked by Gabe - Tue Jan 26 10:54:38 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, you would just go to the dealer with a list of what you want, and they will either try to find it for you from one of the other dealers and have it shipped to you, or they will have the factory custom build it for you. This is actually a very common occurrence. As for how long it'll take, I don't know. The dealer will be able to tell you that.

How do you make a custom car street leagal?
Q. Lets say I won the lotto and rather then buying a a supercar I wanted to disign my own. What does it take to make a new concept car street leagal? No I didn't win the lotto I just want to learn.

A. To become road legal in the UK, it would need to pass a special MoT test (just a very thorough look around the vehicle, checking it against various laws and hitting the chassis with a hammer). The requirements to pass this test can be bought as a booklet through the post, or probably emailed or found on the web. If it's a one off, then I can't imagine that any organisation would want to crash it for you. The AA and RAC will probably be able to help if you really can't find any information.

A. Find a pace in your area that can cut metal with a water jet, have them cut out a design. It can be steel or aluminum Steel is easier to chrome plate. Bring your cut part to any pace that does chrome plating some of the industrial places are less expensive than car or bike customizers.

Where can I get completely custom car seats for my 01 Eclipse?
Q. I am in the process of customizing my 01 Eclipse and I want customized seats. I found a few websites but most with preset custom things. I want to be able to have a picture or text engraved in the seats like a superman emblem to give an example (even though that's not what I want). So where can I find a place that makes personalized or customized seats/interiors?
Asked by EclipseLvr - Wed Jun 23 11:58:07 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Installing seats is one of the most noticeable changes you can make to your Mitsubishi Eclipse. Keep in mind, though, that seats almost never mount up to your factory seat brackets. This means that installing seats (aka buckets seats) in your Mitsubishi Eclipse requires you to buy not only the seats but also the brackets, which are sold separately. If you have any questions about how to install Mitsubishi Eclipse seats, please call us at 1-800-419-1152.
