Q. What are the torque specs for cylinder heads for 1994 honda civic i just put a new head gasket
Asked by Casper - Sun Oct 25 22:14:41 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Use new head bolts you cannot reuse them. The torque specs come with the new bolts. You torque them and then give them a exact degree of twist which stretches them thus you cannot reuse them.

Q. I have a 1991 Lincoln Continental with 44k original miles. What do you know...the head gasket goes! I have a mobile mechanic working on it right now and he needs to know what the torque specs are for the head bolts, and what order does he tighten them in? A. The torque specs. for this particular engine is fairly complex, so I will start by illustrating the bolt tightening sequence below, and follow up with the instructional steps. So here it goes: Long Bolts (7) (3) (1) (5) Short Bolts (8) (2) (4) (6) Begin the tightening steps by torquing ALL head bolts in the sequence listed above, in the following steps: -20 Nm (15 lb-ft). -40 Nm (30 lb-ft). -50 Nm (37 lb-ft). Once all the bolts have been tightened to the specs. listed above, follow the tightening steps below, in the same numerical sequence as illustrated above: long bolts: A. Loosen the long bolt and back out 2-3 turns. B. Retighten the long bolt to 40-50 Nm (30-37 lb-ft). C. Rotate the long bolt an additional… [cont.]

A. I own a shop, and have been building engines for over 40 years. Intakes are kind of funny when it comes to torque spec's. According to my Chevrolet Factory Performance Guide, the spec's call for 30 ft. lbs. of torque working from the center bolts in a criss-cross fashion to the end bolts. Use thread sealer on clean bolts, and a drop or two of engine oil where the head of the bolts contact the intake. The intake gaskets will settle, and after sitting over night, go over them again with the torque wrench. Many mechanics use the three pound added torque to insure a good seal, but I have had engines that had to be gone over several times before they finally stopped leaking. If after you torque them they leak, then go 1/8 of a turn more,… [cont.]

A. I would look for a repair guide for a 1992 Toyota Camry with a 3.0 V-6. The ES300 was just a fancy Camry. If that doesnt work, a Lexus RX300 will be the same, or a Toyota Sienna or Highlander. I would bet you would be able to find a book for one of those.
